Cymbet EnerChip Energy Harvesting Kits Support TI MSP430 MCU LaunchPad Development Kit
Cymbet Corp. announced that their EnerChip solid state battery energy harvesting (EH) evaluation kits now support the Texas Instruments Inc. (TI) MSP430 Value Line LaunchPad development kit. The combination of a Cymbet EH kit and TI LaunchPad enables designers to experiment with energy harvesting technology and applications for as little as $55.00. Ambient energy can be harvested from light, motion, vibration, heat, electromagnetic and RF sources by the Cymbet EnerChip EH kits that power LaunchPad. Cymbet also is supplying an open source temperature data logging application for LaunchPad.
The TI LaunchPad development kit is part of the MSP430 Value Line series and is an easy-to-use development tool intended for beginners and experienced users alike for creating microcontroller-based applications. LaunchPad allows various MSP430 Value Line devices to be used and an on-board flash emulation tool allows direct interface to a PC for easy programming, debugging and evaluation. Included, are free and downloadable software development environments for writing and debugging software.
"We are very pleased to have Cymbet’s continued support for our MSP430 development kits," said TI’s Emmanuel Sambuis, General Manager, MSP430. "Their EnerChip EH kits are cost effective and provide an excellent way to power MSP430 MCUs."

"The EVAL-09, EVAL-10 and EVAL-11 kits were created in response to our customers’ desire to build zero power-based devices using different types of energy harvesting," said Jeff Sather Cymbet VP Customer Solutions. "We are working closely with electronics designers around the world to create new products that self-power by harvesting ambient energy. These devices – such as autonomous wireless sensors, data loggers, smart patches, micro actuators and process controls – are all "off the grid" using life-of-product EnerChip energy storage."

Energy Efficiency with Class D Amplifier Modules
Class-D switching amplifiers are helping audio designers create personal multimedia devices and home audio/visual systems that demonstrate how compact and stylish equipment can also deliver high sound quality and high audio output power. The key to this breakthrough, providing freedom from the large and bulky boxes housing traditional audio products, lies in the class-D amplifier’s high energy efficiency, which is typically around 90%. This allows designers to reduce or eliminate heatsinks as well as using smaller-sized PCBs and smaller components such as transformers, connectors and power supplies.

The Role of Hall Effect Sensors in Power Distribution Infrastructure
Power distribution units (PDUs) form an essential part of modern computing and data communications hardware. They provide multiple outputs for transferring electrical power with maximum efficiency, controlling the power capacity and safeguarding against the possible causes of supply interruption. With an ever increasing need from tech savvy consumers for higher data throughput and greater quantities of data storage capacity, as well as tough international legislation now governing CO&sub2; emissions, the demands being placed on these units are proving challenging for engineering teams to satisfy.
