Small Tech Offers ESC-PV Series DC-DC Converters

March 01, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Small Technology Research Group (STRG, Taichung, Taiwan) announced a new Power Version (PV) of its ESC Series dc-dc converters, delivering high current and efficiency in an industry-standard 2.0 in x 1.6 in standard package. The Power Version of the ESC Series enables communications and networking OEMs to minimize board space, reduce production costs and support the on-going migration toward lower supply voltages for ICs and microprocessors.

The ESC-PV converters operate over an input-voltage range of 36 Vdc to 75 Vdc (48 V nominal) to provide a precisely regulated output as low as 1.8 V. The ESC-PV takes advantage of synchronous rectification technology to deliver a typical full-load efficiency of 89% at 3.3 Vdc. The ESC-PV modules are available in a range of output voltages (5.0 V at 10.0 A, 3.3 V at 15 A, 2.5 V at 15 A and 1.8 V at 15 A). Each model is available in input PI-filter or input EMC-filter configurations.

The ESC-PV modules deliver twice the power range of standard 2.0 in x 1.6 in packages and can handle all 50 W/15 A applications previously tackled by half-brick packages, delivering the same power in a smaller footprint. The ESC-PV modules are capable of operating in temperatures ranging from -40 °C to +85 °C, and incorporate a range of safety features to protect against abnormal inputs, outputs and temperatures. Performance is further enhanced by monotonic start-up and operation into pre-biased loads.

Samples of the ESC-PV modules are available now.
