Bourns Acquires Assets from Jensen Devices AB

Power Channels: Power Components

Bourns, Inc. announced it has completed its purchase of substantially all of the assets of Jensen Devices AB. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Jensen Devices, headquartered and with manufacturing operations in Stockholm, Sweden, designs and manufactures gas discharge tubes (GDTs). The company is well-known for its Sparctube® series of GDTs, which are used for switching ignition circuits for automotive HID headlights. Jensen Devices also services industrial and telecom markets with GDTs used as overvoltage protectors. The company has a long history of developing innovative solutions for challenging applications. This is a strategic purchase that will broaden the technical capabilities of Bourns’ industry-leading GDT product line while opening the automotive HID market for the company.

"Jensen Devices’ novel and patented FLAT® gas tube technology promises some very beneficial features to Bourns’ customers, and will further strengthen Bourns’ position as a leading supplier of circuit protection solutions," said Dr. Erik Meijer, President of Bourns Electronics. "This acquisition further demonstrates Bourns’ dedication to supplying our customers with the best and most reliable electronic solutions to satisfy the diverse needs of today as well as the unmet needs of tomorrow."

Energy Efficiency with Class D Amplifier Modules

Class-D switching amplifiers are helping audio designers create personal multimedia devices and home audio/visual systems that demonstrate how compact and stylish equipment can also deliver high sound quality and high audio output power. The key to this breakthrough, providing freedom from the large and bulky boxes housing traditional audio products, lies in the class-D amplifier’s high energy efficiency, which is typically around 90%. This allows designers to reduce or eliminate heatsinks as well as using smaller-sized PCBs and smaller components such as transformers, connectors and power supplies.
