ALM Lead Acid Replacement Batteries

A123 Systems' ALM Lithium Module Series of batteries deliver significantly lighter weight, higher power and longer calendar and cycle life as compared with lead acid for a number of applications, including telecommunications, data centers, medical systems, electric mobility, and UPS systems, among others.

Beginning with the first product offering in the series, the ALM 12V7, A123's batteries can be deployed as direct drop-in lead acid replacements or as the modular building block for larger systems. Our robust ALMs are designed to last longer in the field, which makes them ideal for remote locations and difficult installations. For many applications, our ALMs result in a lower total cost of ownership (TCO) over lead acid due to reduced maintenance and service costs, reduced shipping and material handling costs and lower total inventory carrying costs.

Key Features & Benefits:

* Longer Life: Offers up to 20 times longer cycle life and five times longer float/calendar life than lead acid, helping to minimize replacement costs and reduce total cost of ownership

* Lighter Weight: Weigh less than half of comparable lead acid batteries

Opinion: Intelligent (Active Inverter) Eco-Mode Approach can Provide UPS Efficiency without Availability Concerns

* Higher Power: Delivers twice the power of lead acid, even at high discharge rates, while maintaining high energy capacity

* Superior Safety: A123's Nanophosphate lithium iron phosphate chemistry provides excellent abuse tolerance, and multiple layers of protection are employed at the chemistry, cell and system levels

* Increased Flexibility: Modular design enables deployment of up to four ALM batteries in series and up to 10 in parallel without requiring additional electronics, helping to reduce system complexity and increase durability.

What's more, with this product line, customers can purchase A123 batteries/systems online. Anyone interested just needs to visit the ALM Web page and click the "Buy ALM Now!" button at the top right to access an authorized distributor's online store.

Energy Efficiency with Class D Amplifier Modules

Class-D switching amplifiers are helping audio designers create personal multimedia devices and home audio/visual systems that demonstrate how compact and stylish equipment can also deliver high sound quality and high audio output power. The key to this breakthrough, providing freedom from the large and bulky boxes housing traditional audio products, lies in the class-D amplifier’s high energy efficiency, which is typically around 90%. This allows designers to reduce or eliminate heatsinks as well as using smaller-sized PCBs and smaller components such as transformers, connectors and power supplies.

The Role of Hall Effect Sensors in Power Distribution Infrastructure

Power distribution units (PDUs) form an essential part of modern computing and data communications hardware. They provide multiple outputs for transferring electrical power with maximum efficiency, controlling the power capacity and safeguarding against the possible causes of supply interruption. With an ever increasing need from tech savvy consumers for higher data throughput and greater quantities of data storage capacity, as well as tough international legislation now governing CO&sub2; emissions, the demands being placed on these units are proving challenging for engineering teams to satisfy.
