600W MicroTCA and 650W CompactPCI lead the way for Gresham at Electronica 2012, Hall B2 Stand 256
electronica 2012 Preview
At this year's Electronica, Gresham Power Electronics, the Salisbury, UK based MIL and Commercial power conversion specialist, will be demonstrating how their market leading 6U 650W cPCI power supply can effectively replace all other 6U products of lower output power, offering customers the twin benefits of vendor and inventory reduction.

Also making its debut at the show will be a new 600W MicroTCA power supply. The PS-1138 high-power module supports shelves, cubes, MicroTCA enclosures, and other implementations and complies with the PICMG MicroTCA Revision 1.0 specification. The PS-1138 provides functionality for powering, managing and protecting a MicroTCA system that includes up to 12 Advanced Micro-Controllers, 2 MicroTCA carrier hubs and 2 cooling units.
Building on Gresham's extensive MIL experience visitors will be able to see a ruggedised version of Gresham's highly successful 300W, 3U cPCI power supply. Available in 24VDC, 48VDC and universal AC input versions the new power supply range has a conformal coating making it suitable for extreme industrial, MIL/COTS and marine applications. The new ruggedised cPCI power supplies are hot-swap and parallel redundant enabled. Extra-high power density allows up to 40A to be drawn from the +3.3VDC output and 30A from the +5VDC output at 55°C.
The full Gresham Power Electronics product range includes; OEM power supplies for advanced multi-media applications, industrial, communications and broadcast systems. Hot-swap power shelves and products for telecoms, medical, industrial and commercial applications as well as static frequency converters, DC UPS, distributed power systems and DC:AC inverters for Naval Defence systems.

Energy Efficiency with Class D Amplifier Modules
Class-D switching amplifiers are helping audio designers create personal multimedia devices and home audio/visual systems that demonstrate how compact and stylish equipment can also deliver high sound quality and high audio output power. The key to this breakthrough, providing freedom from the large and bulky boxes housing traditional audio products, lies in the class-D amplifier’s high energy efficiency, which is typically around 90%. This allows designers to reduce or eliminate heatsinks as well as using smaller-sized PCBs and smaller components such as transformers, connectors and power supplies.

The Role of Hall Effect Sensors in Power Distribution Infrastructure
Power distribution units (PDUs) form an essential part of modern computing and data communications hardware. They provide multiple outputs for transferring electrical power with maximum efficiency, controlling the power capacity and safeguarding against the possible causes of supply interruption. With an ever increasing need from tech savvy consumers for higher data throughput and greater quantities of data storage capacity, as well as tough international legislation now governing CO&sub2; emissions, the demands being placed on these units are proving challenging for engineering teams to satisfy.
