Intelligent Energy Announces the Appointment of Paul Heiden as Non-executive Chairman

Intelligent Energy announced the appointment of Paul Heiden as non-executive Chairman. Mr Heiden has extensive experience at the most senior levels of industry in a career which has spanned a range of leading engineering, manufacturing and technology companies. These include Rolls-Royce plc, where he was Group Finance Director and, most recently, FKI plc, where he was Chief Executive Officer.

The appointment of Mr Heiden follows the recent strengthening of the Board through the addition of three new non-executive directors in July: Mike Muller, the Chief Technology Officer and co-founder of ARM; Zarir J Cama, the former Chief Executive Officer of HSBC India and Malaysia; and Martin Bloom, the Chairman of Renesola. As a result, Intelligent Energy's non-executive team now has an outstanding breadth of expertise and deep experience in each of the company's main markets of motive, stationary power and consumer electronics.

Henri Winand, Chief Executive Officer of Intelligent Energy, said: "We are delighted that someone of Paul Heiden's calibre and experience is joining the company. His outstanding track record in both executive and non-executive roles will be invaluable in helping Intelligent Energy to achieve its ambitious plans for the future. I would like to thank John Rennocks, who has chaired the company for the past six years, for the very significant contribution he has made in steering the company through a highly successful period of growth and development."

Paul Heiden added: "Intelligent Energy is a company with a unique and outstanding technology, an exceptionally talented team and an increasingly global footprint. I look forward to contributing to what promises to be an extremely exciting future."

At both Rolls-Royce plc and FKI plc, Mr Heiden managed businesses with diverse interests in the global energy and industrial power business sector with substantial aftermarket activities. He also has extensive experience in corporate governance activities including communication with investors in the UK, US and EU.

Opinion: Maximising Synergies between Power Electronics and ICT for improving Energy Efficiency

Mr Heiden is currently a non executive Director of the London Stock Exchange Group plc, United Utilities plc and Meggitt plc. Until recently he was also Chairman of Talaris Topco plc, a company owned by the Carlyle Group.

Energy Efficiency with Class D Amplifier Modules

Class-D switching amplifiers are helping audio designers create personal multimedia devices and home audio/visual systems that demonstrate how compact and stylish equipment can also deliver high sound quality and high audio output power. The key to this breakthrough, providing freedom from the large and bulky boxes housing traditional audio products, lies in the class-D amplifier’s high energy efficiency, which is typically around 90%. This allows designers to reduce or eliminate heatsinks as well as using smaller-sized PCBs and smaller components such as transformers, connectors and power supplies.

The Role of Hall Effect Sensors in Power Distribution Infrastructure

Power distribution units (PDUs) form an essential part of modern computing and data communications hardware. They provide multiple outputs for transferring electrical power with maximum efficiency, controlling the power capacity and safeguarding against the possible causes of supply interruption. With an ever increasing need from tech savvy consumers for higher data throughput and greater quantities of data storage capacity, as well as tough international legislation now governing CO&sub2; emissions, the demands being placed on these units are proving challenging for engineering teams to satisfy.
