nPower PEG Uses eGaN Technology from EPC to Charge Mobile Devices from People-Power

The nPower® PEG is the world's first human-powered charger for hand-held electronics. The product from Tremont Electric uses eGaN® FETs from Efficient Power Conversion Corp. in their nPower PEG (Personal Energy Generator). It is a clever device that uses the human kinetic energy generated while walking, running or biking to store the energy for use when you need it -- while you are off the grid. The nPower PEG is the first passive kinetic energy charger for hand-held electronics. This would make a great holiday gift using state-of-the-art eGaN technology for the hiker who may need help (or want to order a pizza) during that long holiday hike!

The nPower PEG uses eGaN FETs for several reasons. The extremely low drive power required to use the EPC2012, in the flyback converter. Switching losses are considerably lower compared to power MOSFETs. EPC2012 is much smaller than any other FETs available in the market.

Operation is beautifully simple. The PEG gives access to backup battery power even when away from a wall outlet. As long as you're moving, your PEG is charging itself without any additional effort on your part. When your device needs a charge, just plug in to your PEG and press the button and rain or shine, day or night, you'll have backup battery power. Just place your nPower PEG in your backpack, briefcase, or purse and go about your daily activities. As you move, your PEG harvests your kinetic energy & stores it for use when you need it: When you are on the go, away from the power grid.
