Mean Well Extends Open-Frame AC-DC Offering Down to 15W

After launching ac-dc miniature green open-frame type switching power supplies from 25 to 300 W, Mean Well has introduced the EPS-15 series (15W), to make this product line more complete. With extremely low no load power consumption (<0.3W), EPS-15 series have advantages of compact size, high efficiency, and cost efficient. Comparing to the first generation of PCB type with the same wattage, the PS-15 series, their PCB size is reduced by 37% to 1.8" x 2.5", the working efficiency are increased by 2 to 8%, and the warranty is extended from 2 years to 3 years.

With up-to-date high-efficiency circuit design, EPS-15 series possess up to 85% efficiency. Hence, they can be cooled by free air convection from -30° to +70° ambient temperature that required for operating in a closed system. Complete protection functions include short circuit, overload, and over voltage. In addition, these new power units feature with extremely low no-load power consumption (<0. 3W), which allows the designers easily conform to the requirements of ErP norm (Energy-related Products) and ENERGY STAR for end systems.

These new series comply with certificates per UL/CUL/TUV/CB/CE which can greatly guarantee your safety. Suitable applications include factory automation, electrical or mechanical equipment, and all usage that requires low no load power consumption. They operate from a universal ac input 85-264Vac and feature a 24mm low profile.

Energy Efficiency with Class D Amplifier Modules

Class-D switching amplifiers are helping audio designers create personal multimedia devices and home audio/visual systems that demonstrate how compact and stylish equipment can also deliver high sound quality and high audio output power. The key to this breakthrough, providing freedom from the large and bulky boxes housing traditional audio products, lies in the class-D amplifier’s high energy efficiency, which is typically around 90%. This allows designers to reduce or eliminate heatsinks as well as using smaller-sized PCBs and smaller components such as transformers, connectors and power supplies.
