CUI Expands DIN-Rail Power Supply Line to Address Higher Power Industrial Applications

CUI Inc. has expanded its line of high efficiency DIN rail ac-dc power supplies, to include 150 W and 240 W versions for higher power industrial applications. The VDRS family is housed in a slim DIN rail package with all electrical connections easily accessible via front panel screw terminals. Features include remote on/off control, a peak load capability of 150% for up to 3 seconds, active power factor correction, and efficiency reaching 92%, making the power supplies suited for process control, automation, and assembly applications where reducing energy consumption is a priority.

The VDRS family provides a universal input of 88 to 264 Vac and fully regulated dc outputs of 24 and 48 Vdc. An LED indicator on the power supply gives the user an immediate visual indication of the output status. Additionally, the output voltage can be easily adjusted via the front panel potentiometer. All models carry UL/cUL 508 and TUV 60950-1 certifications and are rated for operation at full load from -10° to 50°C ambient, derating to 50% load at 70 °C. Protections for over voltage, over current and over temperature are standard.

Energy Efficiency with Class D Amplifier Modules

Class-D switching amplifiers are helping audio designers create personal multimedia devices and home audio/visual systems that demonstrate how compact and stylish equipment can also deliver high sound quality and high audio output power. The key to this breakthrough, providing freedom from the large and bulky boxes housing traditional audio products, lies in the class-D amplifier’s high energy efficiency, which is typically around 90%. This allows designers to reduce or eliminate heatsinks as well as using smaller-sized PCBs and smaller components such as transformers, connectors and power supplies.
