10W DC-DC Converter from XP Power Delivers 31W per Cubic Inch
XP Power today announced the JCA10 series of single and dual output 10-Watt metal cased dc-dc converters. Already a popular dc-dc converter family, the JCA series now comprises 2, 3, 4, 6 and 10 Watt models. Packaged in an ultra-compact format measuring 1 x 0.8 x 0.4 inches (25.4 x 20.3 x 10.0 mm) the JCA10 series has a footprint 20% smaller than other DIP-24 devices available on the market. Occupying less PCB space than conventional designs allows designers to reduce the size of new developments or utilize the board space for additional features, while the industry standard DIP-24 pin-out makes the converter an ideal drop-in replacement for existing designs.

Accommodating a 2:1 input range, the JCA10 series offers a choice of 4 nominal input voltages of 5, 12, 24 and 48 Vdc. Inputs are 4.5 – 9.0 Vdc, 9 – 18 Vdc, 18 – 36 Vdc or 36 – 75 Vdc with under-voltage lockout as standard. For each input voltage, single output models offer +3.3, +5, +12 or +15 Vdc outputs or the dual output versions provide ± 5, ± 12 or +/15 Vdc. Outputs are fully regulated, varying no more than ± 0.3% over all input conditions, and less than ± 1.0% across all load conditions.
The JCA series offer basic input to output isolation rated at 1,500 Vdc and case to input or output is 500 Vdc. Suitable for a wide variety of application environments, the converters operate from -40 degrees to +100 degrees C with no derating until +70 degrees C. No additional heat sinking or forced air cooling is required. The maximum case temperature is +100 degrees C.

The series has UL/CSA and EN 60950-1 internationally recognized safety approvals pending and meets EN55022 level A conducted and level B radiated emissions without the need for any additional components. The JCA10 is priced from $26.52 for a 500 pcs order of single output models to $28.896 for the duals.

Energy Efficiency with Class D Amplifier Modules
Class-D switching amplifiers are helping audio designers create personal multimedia devices and home audio/visual systems that demonstrate how compact and stylish equipment can also deliver high sound quality and high audio output power. The key to this breakthrough, providing freedom from the large and bulky boxes housing traditional audio products, lies in the class-D amplifier’s high energy efficiency, which is typically around 90%. This allows designers to reduce or eliminate heatsinks as well as using smaller-sized PCBs and smaller components such as transformers, connectors and power supplies.

The Role of Hall Effect Sensors in Power Distribution Infrastructure
Power distribution units (PDUs) form an essential part of modern computing and data communications hardware. They provide multiple outputs for transferring electrical power with maximum efficiency, controlling the power capacity and safeguarding against the possible causes of supply interruption. With an ever increasing need from tech savvy consumers for higher data throughput and greater quantities of data storage capacity, as well as tough international legislation now governing CO&sub2; emissions, the demands being placed on these units are proving challenging for engineering teams to satisfy.
