ARCOL Power Resistors offer High Pulse Power Capability in a Compact Form Factor

ARCOL Resistors has extended its HS range of high-power aluminum-housed resistors to include a low profile version offering an unequalled balance of pulse power capability versus volume. These power resistors are manufactured using a wire-wound design to maximize their high pulse capability and are available in 10 standard power ratings from 10 to 600 watts. Liquid-cooled versions are also available extending the range from 600 to 900 watts. Ohmic resistance values are available over the range R005 to 100K, depending on wattage.

Key specifications include optional non inductive winding, RoHS compliance and manufacture in line with the requirements of mil -18546 and IEC 115. Standard temperature coefficients are typically < 1K 100ppm Std. > 1K 25ppm. The HS series of resistors are designed for ease of assembly and offer 7 different termination options, more than any comparable product. A wide range of thermal transfer accessories are available as are customized resistor values and terminations.

Energy Efficiency with Class D Amplifier Modules

Class-D switching amplifiers are helping audio designers create personal multimedia devices and home audio/visual systems that demonstrate how compact and stylish equipment can also deliver high sound quality and high audio output power. The key to this breakthrough, providing freedom from the large and bulky boxes housing traditional audio products, lies in the class-D amplifier’s high energy efficiency, which is typically around 90%. This allows designers to reduce or eliminate heatsinks as well as using smaller-sized PCBs and smaller components such as transformers, connectors and power supplies.
