March 08, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Ault Inc. (Minneapolis, MN) announced its new MW116 Universal 60 to 90W Series power supply. The desktop-style MW116 features 100Vac to 250Vac universal input in an IEC320 C18 non-grounded configuration. The MW116 Series is available in 5, 9, 12, 18-, 24 and 48V output models and includes an internal primary current fuse as well as inrush limiting. The MW116 measures 5.08" x 3.05" x 1.59" and weighs 13oz. It meets TUV/IEC601 requirements, as well as UL2601 and CSA601. Ault believes that the systems will be popular for powering MRI LCD displays, life care patient monitors, home care diagnostic systems and heart-assist blood pumps.

Features of the MW116 include foldback over-current protection and short-circuit protection. Transient output response is 0.5 milliseconds for a 50-percent load change, and the unit's holdup time is 10 milliseconds throughout its entire output range. All models have low output ripple and impact-resistant polycarbonate enclosure.

"As the home health care and HMO markets grow, OEMs are designing portable equipment that can travel from the operating room to the patient's room to the patient's residence," commented Greg Harris, Ault's vice president of business development. "We believe our products and value-added services are well-suited for OEMs because we understand their rigid product requirements and safety agency certification issues."

The MW116 Series is priced based on volume requirements and desired customer modifications. It is available in voltages up to and including 90W.
