NovTech and Active-Semi Collaborate on Power Management

February 23, 2015 by Jeff Shepard

NovTech Inc. and Active-Semi International, Inc. today announced their collaboration to offer immediate availability of power management solutions for the Freescale i.MX6 family of application processors. The ACT8847QM502-T is Active-Semi's newest addition to the ActivePMU™ portfolio of power management integrated circuits (PMICs) that are used to deliver highly efficient power supplies to embedded processing systems and peripherals. NovTech provides integrated systems-on-module (SoM) solutions for Freescale and an active member of the Freescale Design Alliance Partner program. Active-Semi and NovTech Inc. have collaborated together to make available a complete i.MX6+ACT8847 reference design.

NovTech leveraged their NOVSOM®i.MX6x Platform Evaluation Kit (NOVPEK™) to create the i.MX6+ACT8847 reference design with Active-Semi. "The performance, configurability, and overall value of the ACT8847 make it a very compelling power management solution for the embedded world," says Jim Stringham, Director of Marketing and Sales at NovTech.

The ACT8847QM502-T provides four switch-mode buck regulators and eight linear regulators, power state control logic, seven general purpose signals, and an optional two-wire interface for general control and DVFS (Dynamic Voltage Frequency Scaling). The voltage levels and power sequence is pre-programmed such that it offers a skin-tight fit to power Freescale i.MX6 systems.

"By supporting this reference design with both i.MX6 dual-core and quad-core A9 processors, we have expanded the footprint of our customer base," says Mark Cieri, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Active-Semi. "NovTech’s certified design allows us to power applications that demand the multimedia, 3D graphics, and video processing that these Freescale Application Processors enable."
