Siliconix Releases Power MOSFETs in PowerPAK Packages

August 08, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Siliconix Inc. (Santa Clara, CA), an 80.4-percent owned subsidiary of Vishay Intertechnology Inc. (Malvern, PA), has released its first power MOSFETs in its PowerPAK packages. Measuring 3.3mm x 3.3mm, with a 1.07mm height profile, the PowerPAK 1212-8 power MOSFETs will be used mainly as power amplifier switches and load switches in cellular phones, pagers, PDAs and other portable electronic systems. On-resistance for these new p-channel devices is as low as 16mohms at a 4.5V gate drive, with maximum current handling of up to -13A.

Siliconix reports that devices in the PowerPAK 1212-8 are 11 percent thinner than a TSSOP-8, but can dissipate twice the power and handle 13 percent or more current. The company further claims that, compared with other devices with a comparable footprint, they deliver an order of magnitude improvement in thermal conductivity.
