Maxon Precision Motors Debuts New MMC-EC040036-05P300A Brushless Motor Controller

March 29, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

The MMC-EC040036-05P300A brushless motor controller from Maxon Precision Motors Inc. (Burlingame, CA) provides electronic commutation for brushless dc motors. Feedback is achieved via Hall-effect sensors built into the motor. Speed is determined via an external signal voltage (1.5V to 5V), or via an integrated potentiometer. Inputs are designed to select direction or to disable power using TTL, CMOS or a switch. The output stage is designed using MOSFET technology.

Supply voltage is 12V to 40V, with a 4V drop to the motor. Maximum continuous current is 3.5A or 5A with an additional heatsink. The controller measures 95mm x 55mm (3.74" x 2.16") and is 32mm (1.26") high, including the connector. The connector is removable so that the controller can also be mounted directly to a circuit board.
