Microsemi and Advanced Power Technology Release Low-Current MOSFET

August 20, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Microsemi Corp. (Santa Ana, CA) has introduced a low-current 500V MOSFET in the company's proprietary Powermite 3 plastic surface-mount package. Microsemi claims the device will allow designers of hand-held devices to design their motor control, switch-mode power supply and high-voltage driver circuits within the smallest possible board space. The UPF1N50 N-Channel MOSFET is about one-third the size of similar devices on the market, according to Microsemi. The device is the latest product resulting from Microsemi's alliance with Advanced Power Technology Inc. (Bend, OR).

The Powermite 3 package is designed to replace the larger and higher profile D-PAK and TO-220 packages that are widely used for power semiconductor devices. It has a dimension of less than 1.1mm high with a footprint of 5.3mm x 4.8mm, an ultra-low-leakage current of 2uA, and a low on-state resistance of 3.5 ohms. The device also is able to provide thermal resistance characteristics as low as 2 degrees C per watt.
