PowerPulse.net Technical Paper Author's Guidelines

It is strongly suggested that topics be discussed and agreed upon with the PowerPulse editor prior to writing any feature articles. An editorial calendar (PDF) is available as a guideline of the types of subject matter included in PowerPulse. The editorial calendar is only a minimum guideline for each issue; additional topics will be included, as they become available for publication.

All material should be focused on an aspect of power electronics. Acceptable areas of discussion include: components, sub-systems, system architectures, topologies, performance measurement and specifications, industry standards, and so on. Consult the current Editorial Calendar for a more complete listing of typical subject matter. Articles are expected to be practical and applications oriented. Theoretical, historical and especially blatantly promotional articles are not accepted for publication.

Because PowerPulse is published as an e-zine, articles can include complex elements that are not accepted by print publications. Computer 'attachments' such as downloadable Spice models of components, lengthy attachments such as an extended 'boilerplate' specification layout, animated illustrations, or other 'support' data can be included as enhancements to basic PowerPulse articles. This is a new media and provides authors with exciting opportunities for creativity.

The preferred format for article submissions is a Microsoft Word file with any accompanying illustrations as separate 'gif' or 'jpg' files. Computer files of articles can be submitted on disk or via e-mail. Please consult the editor or publisher regarding the usability of other file formats. Color illustrations are preferred.

As a general guideline, feature articles should run 1,200 to 1,500 words, with 4 to 6 accompanying illustrations. Contact the editor if your article varies from these suggested limits. Complex illustrations will be included as 'thumbnails' in the 'html' version of the article, with a link provided to view the illustration in full size.

Recaps of Recent Capacitor Developments

The past several months have witnessed significant new product releases and technological developments related to the field of capacitor technology.

In June, Texas Instruments Inc. (TI) introduced what it says is the industry’s first fully integrated Li-Ion battery management integrated circuit (IC) for super capacitor charge control. This single device provides comprehensive features for managing charge control; measuring capacitance and effective series resistance (ESR); and protecting either 2-, 3-, 4- or 5-series super capacitors with individual capacitor control, or up to 9-series capacitors with stack control.
